ST. LUCIE RIVER ISSUES TEAM PROJECTS

The St. Lucie River Issues Team ranked 10 projects to receive a share of $2 million in state money to clean up local waterways. Sponsoring agencies must provide at least a 50 percent match to team money. These are the projects and the amount provided by the team:

1 -- Remove exotic plants and sediment from Frazier Creek.

2 -- Build a small storm-water treatment area and other structures in the Golden Gate area.
Sponsor: Martin County

3 -- Install baffle boxes in the River Park neighborhood.
Sponsor: St. Lucie County

4 (tie) -- Build a small storm-water retention and treatment area in the Rio Vista neighborhood.
Sponsor: Sewall's Point

4 (tie) -- Renovate a small canal in White City.

5 -- Build a small storm-water treatment area and other structures in the Palm Lake Park neighborhood.

6 (tie) -- Study fish health problems as an indicator of water quality in the St. Lucie River.

6 (tie) -- Study environmental toxicity in the river and Indian River Lagoon.

7 -- Build a 12-acre storm-water treatment area in the Fern Creek neighborhood.

8 -- Convert citrus fields from flood irrigation to micro-jet irrigation.
